Enhanced Login Security is a new online security feature that will provide you with additional protection from fraud and identity theft. The changes are required by virtually every financial institution that offers this service. In addition to your normal account number and password, you will be asked to enroll in this enhanced security system.
The new feature identifies you as the true owner of your accounts by recognizing not only your password, but also the computer(s) you login from regularly. If the computer is not recognized, you will be asked for information that only you know before being allowed access. You will be asked to create some challenge questions like the ones you may have created in case you forget a password. This is done to enroll your computer in the enhanced security system. Once your computer has been enrolled, the system places a small file on your computer called a "cookie". This is normally only done once for your computer. This allows the system to recognize not only you as the person signing on, but it also allows the system to verify the computer that was enrolled. If someone tried to commit fraud by signing into your account from a computer that is not yours, the system would recognize that they are not at your computer and ask your security questions as a layer of protection.
You can enroll more than one computer if you utilize multiple computers for online banking. However, if you access online banking through a computer that is public or through a computer you might only use once or twice, you will not want to enroll that particular computer. You can, however, gain temporary access by answering your challenge questions.
Most people will only notice the change one time when they enroll for the first time or when they enroll a different computer. A few people will be affected more than once if they remove "cookies" from their computer, access a computer that isn't enrolled, or buy a new computer.
