What is a premium money market account?
A premium money market account is a savings account designed for larger balances that offers tiered interest rates while keeping your funds accessible. Kohler Credit Union premium money market accounts can help you save for long-term goals, such as college, a home purchase, or other major expenses.
How does a money market account work?
A money market account earns dividends based on your balance, with higher balances typically earning higher rates. You can access your funds when needed, and dividends are usually paid monthly. Use Kohler Credit Union’s Money Market Calculator to estimate how much you could earn.
What is the difference between a money market account and a savings account?
Both money market accounts and savings accounts help you save and earn dividends, but a money market account may offer higher rates for higher balances. Money market accounts may also include limited check access, while basic savings accounts are usually designed for smaller balances and simpler saving needs.
What is the difference between a money market account and a CD?
A money market account allows you to access your funds as needed while earning dividends. A certificate of deposit, or CD, usually requires you to keep your money deposited for a fixed term in exchange for a set rate.
Is a money market account worth it?
A money market account may be worth it if you have a higher balance and want to earn higher dividends while still keeping access to your funds. It can be especially useful for larger savings goals or money you do not need for everyday spending.
How is interest calculated on a money market account?
Money market dividends are calculated based on your account balance and rate tier, with higher balances typically earning higher dividend rates. Dividends are usually credited to your account monthly, helping your savings grow while your funds remain accessible.
Is my money safe in a money market account?
Yes. Funds in Kohler Credit Union money market accounts are federally insured by the NCUA, a U.S. government agency, up to applicable limits. This protection helps keep your savings secure while still giving you access to your money.
What happens if my balance drops below the minimum?
If your premium money market account balance drops below $10,000, a monthly service fee may apply and your dividend earnings may be reduced. Maintaining the minimum balance can help you avoid fees and receive the account’s higher balance-based earning potential.
APY is accurate as of September 14, 2026 the last dividend declaration date.
Rates may change after the account is opened. Maintenance or activity fees could reduce the earnings on the account. Membership is required.
* APY equals Annual Percentage Yield.
** Minimum balance required to earn the advertised APY.
† Should your Premium Money Market fall below $10,000, your account will be charged a monthly service fee of $15.00.
